...in the raw!!!!

...not the photo subject ( thankfully!! LOL ) The chipboard..........i do love to play with different techniques to alter the look of chipboard, but I have to say...RAW is beautiful! Sometimes the look of raw chipboard can add that dimension to your page without making too big of a statement or distracting from your photo or paper. This layout is a fabulous photo taken by Tanya of her husband at Sussex Inlet fishing and wishing this was his all the time life...dont we all! I have used some of the newest releases from WOW, these really fine and delicate. Get your LSS to order them in for you to play with, they will suit all sorts of themes and styles of photos. I have used the Paper Loft "for the record" paper range, random brads and thickers for the title. Have a great day all. San xx

if we all only knew.....

mmmm how many times do we all say that in our life time!

The old 'sliding door' moment hey!....how famous or rich or different would you be if you knew then what you know now!...I am sure we all have great missed opportunities.

In this case the title is actually from a song that I danced to when I was little, I loved dancing ( well for a while anyway!...then i grew up and decided motorbikes were more fun)

The chipboard I have used here is the cupcake boarder strip, I have cut 2 loose from the boarder, to use in a layered effect.

To enhance the cupcakes, I have used creme chalk and coloured textas ( yep those plain old ones the kids use), then covered them with Paper Tole gloss to blend the colours and give some sheen.
There is also a large circle, inked and used a base. WOW make a awesome circle set, that are sized from a page full through.

The paper range used here is Kaiser 'Nans favourites'..love the antique look of the paper, and they are inked with Tim Holtz vintage photo ink.

Have some fun with your textas and coloured pencil,( steal them off the kids!) use the Paper Tole Gloss or Dimensional Magic to enhance them. Heaps of fun!

Well thats its for me, visitors on the way, and as it says in on the layout:

'If i knew you were coming....I'd a baked a cake'..............{off to kitchen for me}

HUGS AND KISSES

I much prefer Hugs and Kisses to Noughts and Crosses, and I think my kids do too :)  They had a blast playing with this game as soon as I had finished it.  A great and quick project from WOW which I decided to keep in simple so it was more usable, and I'm glad I did, as the kids loved it.

I covered the back plate with Basic Grey's Basic range to provide a subtle background. I spritzed the front plate with Tim Holtz distress ink - Fired Brick mixed with Black Soot.  Then I inked the Hugs with Black versa ink cubes, and the Kisses with Vanilla versa ink cubes.  I love the result - a practical gift, quick and easy to make, with hours of fun ahead.

WOW MDF products are great for gifts - a huge range to choose from!

layered chipboard

Hello everyone

This post from me is short and sweet, with a single layout, some very nice pieces of the new WOW and some easy techniques to alter it.

I actually really like raw chip, but altering it does give you the chance to make it suit the paper ranges you are using.
On this layout, I have used this awesome flourish...., to alter it i have painted the flourish twice with teal acrylic paint and then heat dried it, then covered it with paper tole gloss.

( this gloss is great with chip, paint it over your chipboard after you have coloured it with paint, textas, colour pencils and it will blend the lines and also give it a sheen)

and this cool long garden fence..... this i have painted with black matt paint and then lightly highlighted it with some 'make it with stone' gold and rock spray paint
and the flourish surrounding name plate.... i found this great new way to enhance the chipboard using the Krylon 'make it like stone' textured spray paint, it comes in some great colours and dry quick and looks and feels great.
here is a close up of the frame with the Prima flowers and butterfly on top. To enable my name to sit on the top of the frame properly, i have cut a piece of clear transparency and stuck in under...you can still see the flourish but the thickers wont move.
then, I have layered the flourish on top of the fence, using the fine ends of the flourish to wind around the spears on the fence. I have then added some vine ribbon and handcut leaves and the Prima flowers.

Then add the frame to the top, giving a three layered effect of chipboard.

I love the effect that layered chipboard has.
The paper range I have used is from Scrapbook Savvys march kit, its the LYB Twig range.
This is a photo taken by a photographer friend Tanya from TMK photos and its one of my favourites of me!

So get out there...grab yourself some WOW and experiment with it..try some new ways to alter it...and share them with us at WOW.....

My Recipe Book!

Hi, We all have our favourite recipes which might have been passed down by family or my friends or in my case I find recipes on the Internet and change it to suit my family's tastle, so where do you put these recipes? Mine seem to live on bits of paper in the front of other cook books, which then fall onto the floor and seem to get lost or eaten by the dog. (I think it had cake mix on it!).
Well now you can make your own recipe book and maybe it might get passed on one day.
Starters Title Page: I made a title page for each selection, the pages I made out of acetate, so you can see through them.
I used the wooden Spoon on this page which I inked and went around the edges with a brown marker, then some clear crackle paint and some gesso on top.
Meals Title Page: by sewing the acetate pages it helps attach paper and embellishment.
The scales I coated with gesso first then coloured in with a blue marker, then coated it in clear crackle paint, and finished it off with some more gesso on top and some brads.

Sweets Title Page: I used the oven mitt on this page which I covered with paper, inked around the edges then added some gesso.

Cakes Title Page: On this page I used a bakers hat and tea cup, which I covered them both in paper, as above and added some Baker's Twine,
This is one of my favourite parts of this album this Baker's Hat Bookmark, which comes with a hole in the top so you can thread ribbon or like I did Baker's Twine, then just swing it into place, I was thinking about putting on it "To Make".
This is one of the recipe pages, you could use cardstock to create your book, as I used these recipe cards I had to use handwriting.
Well I hope I've inspired you to want to create your own Recipe Book with your own special style and tastes, but if you like this one I used Kaiser's Nan's Favorites.
Thanks and happy cooking!

The best dog EVER!

Hi fellow WOW fans.
Im just stopping in today to share with you a little LO that I completed featuring a cute little WOW chipboard DOG.
I totally love this little guy he is super cute and I really liked the way his natural chipboard colour complimented the other tones on my LO.

I decided to give him some extra definition with just a bit of colour to define his features and here is how I did it.......

As you can see from the original chipboard dog, he already has an outline to define his features.
I simply coloured on the lines with a fine black texta but you could also use a black gel pen.
Next Ive used a grey maker to give him some shading or shadows in certain areas.
I have also coloured in his nose with the same grey marker.
Next up I coloured his tongue with a red marker.
To give him those rosy cheeks I have coloured in the tip of my finger with the red marker and them gently rubbed my finger over his cheeks to give it a softer effect.
After all these steps were completed I used my fine tipped black felt tip pen to add little lines around the grey shaded bits, this just gives the appearance of fur.
The final step was to apply glossy accents to his nose and tongue.
Tie some bakers twine round his cute little neck and there you have it. Hes all ready to adhere to your page.
If you want to customise your dog further to make him a different colour, why not give him a light spray with a brown glimmer mist before you add his shading?
I hope you enjoyed this product as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you.
Thanks for joining me on my first post here on the WOW blog.
Don't forget to ask your local scrapbook shop to order in some WOW products.
You are going to love them. TFL

Ornate Shadow Box Frame

ORNATE SHADOW BOX FRAME

Hi there,

My name is Anita, & this is my first blog post for the WOW blog. In this project I used the Ornate shadow box frame & the ornamental gate piece. I have done a video explaining how I made this project. Firstly this comes flat packed - so I used Prit Glue (best glue ever!) to assemble. So grab a cuppa, sit back & take a squize at my video.

Some Colourful Monkey Business....

Hi everyone ;) This is Katrina Bricknell here and I'm excited to share my first post here as a DT! I love working with WOW chipboard and thought I would share my favourite way to dress up chippie.

For the simple LO I'm sharing today I've used 2 different WOW products. First one being the "Daddy and Me" title, second is the cute little monkey out of the "Cute Zoo Animal Pack".You can see that with the adorable animal package you receive 6 cute little animals, and that they are all a great size to work with - so even though it's a multiple pack WOW certainly do not scrimp on the size of their product!!! BTW - a little tip: as basic as it sounds, when removing items like the animals from the surrounding chipboard cut the joins with a blade, don't try to push it out like I did on my first piece of chippie like that - it will usually end with tears :( Carefully cut your precious one out and it will reduce any damage done ;)

I've a very basic stash of painting supplies so don't feel you need to go out and buy a heap of stuff to get a similar effect I have here. Some basic water based paint (I've used Twinkling H2O's and some basic yellow acrylic), Dimensional Magic coupled with a little patience is really all you need.

So This is the end result of what I have been working on with these two products...

First things first - if you're a messy artist/scrapper like me you can get paint absolutely EVERYWHERE!!! So put down some paper where you are going to be working ;) I learned the hard way that even water based paint can be difficult to remove from different surfaces LOL

It probably sounds really basic but work out what colours your chippie is going to be painted in. WOW chippie takes paint remarkably well - If I'm working with a single colour it usually doesn't require a base coat, however for the little monkey I've done a bit of shading so a base colour was required. I chose a the lightest brown that I was using for the item for the base, That way I could build shading up with the darker colours. The word 'Me' has been left bare as I was doing it in a single colour.

The second step involves what is probably the most complicated work - it's shading. Work with the lighter colours first, and then build up to the darkest colours. For the base coat I've used Twinkling H2O 'Burnt Umber' and shaded with varying degrees of watered down 'cinnamon brown'. The belly and face of the monkey have been base coated with ginger peach in readiness for a yellow acrylic coating once all the other colours had dried. Be careful colouring area's that are close together as the colours will run into each other - this is where patience comes in. You are best to wait for layers to dry before moving onto an adjoining area... In total it took me approximately 4 hours to get all my layers of paint and shadowing down on the monkey and title - you don't need to be as fussy as I am (I'm a renowned perfectionist LOL) and could easily get away without the shading, these little animals are so cute they don't really need too much embellishing :)

Then comes the fun stuff, you finally see your piece coming together. As mentioned previously I painted the monkeys face with yellow acrylic. once this was dry I used some little black bling for the eyes and some black flocking for the nose - got to love a pattable nose!!!! Use the design guides on the chippie to guide where the nose, eyes and mouth are... When painting even if you go over them you should still see the indentation of the guides to help you ;)

The next stage - adding the colour to other areas ('me' - twinkling H2O 'blue grass') and defining the item with dimensional magic once the paint has all dried!. I love DM on chippie - it's great for finishing off an item and adding a bit of professional. Don't be alarmed if the colour of your chippie changes to a milky colour whilst the DM is drying (like you can see above) - it WILL return to normal - I promise :)

Then the absolute FINAL step - arranging your gorgeously coloured and finished chippie onto your LO. Mine is a very simple LO for this example.

Daddy and Me

I hope you enjoyed this mini-tutorial on simple painting and effects on chipboard. Don't be afraid of colour, it's so easy to paint up the WOW chippie and the result is so worth every minute of effort and patience :)
